Encinitas Coastal Rotary’s Community Service Chair, Ralph Hirschmann, spearheaded a heartwarming initiative this holiday season, delivering 125 gift bags to the children of military families in the MALS-11 “Devilfish” unit at MCAS Miramar. Each bag contained a $20 Target gift card, candy canes, and other festive treats, bringing joy and holiday cheer to these deserving families.

The club’s members gathered on December 10 during their weekly lunch meeting to fill the bags. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Encinitas Coastal Rotary has provided these thoughtful gifts to a military unit at Miramar, identified with the help of a trusted military contact on the base. Over the years, the club’s tradition has grown into a meaningful way to express their appreciation for the sacrifices made by our local military personnel and their families.

The MALS-11 “Devilfish,” a division of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, plays a vital role in aviation logistics support. To learn more about this dedicated unit, visit its official webpage.

For Encinitas Coastal Rotary members, this annual project is more than just a gesture of giving; it’s a heartfelt opportunity to connect with and support those who serve our country. As one member shared, “This tradition reminds us of the importance of paying it forward, especially to the families who support our servicemembers daily.”

The Encinitas Coastal Rotary Club continues to embody the spirit of service above self, creating meaningful moments of connection and gratitude within the community and beyond. To learn more about the club’s projects and initiatives, visit Encinitas Coastal Rotary Club.
