For the fourth consecutive year, the Encinitas Coastal Rotary Club empowers first-generation students by supporting the San Diegueno Academy’s AVID College Tour. This annual trip provides approximately 50 AVID students the chance to explore multiple college campuses, helping them prepare to transition to higher education. The tour costs $16,500 and is funded through student fundraising efforts, community donations, and a contribution from the school district.
During a recent Rotary Club meeting, several AVID students, along with their teacher and tour chaperone, Mr. Ross, received a $2,000 donation from the club, directed through the Youth Services Committee headed by Marti Rosenberg. Mr. Ross highlighted the importance of the tour, describing it as a pivotal experience that can inspire students to leap to a four-year college. For many, this tour marks the moment when college becomes a tangible goal.
This year, students visited Long Beach State, USC, UCLA La Sierra University, UC Riverside, University of Redlands, Pitzer College, Pomona College, Claremont McKenna College, Scripps College, Harvey Mudd College, and University of Laverne
