The San Diego Regional Center's mission is "to serve and empower persons with developmental disabilities and their families to achieve their goals with community partners. It provides a variety of services to persons with developmental disabilities and their families. Services are based on the client's individual needs and intended to maximize their independence and full potential. www.sdrc.org We will hear the story about SDRC from Gabby and Suzy; we're in discussions about if/how we might partner with them for a Surf Day. Gabby Ohmstede has worked for the San Diego Regional Center for 15 years in various roles. She has a Masters in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Gabby is currently the Project Manager for the Self Determination Program and is tasked with rolling out a new state-wide program in San Diego and Imperial Counties that will create the opportunity for individuals with developmental disabilities to live more inclusive lives in their communities. Suzy Requarth has worked for the San Diego Regional Center for almost 4 years and, prior to that, worked in a variety of jobs supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in Illinois and Pennsylvania. Currently, Suzy is the Regional Manager of the SDRC North County office. She has a Masters in Counselor Education from Pennsylvania State University. |

Work Party and Projects Day at the Boys & Girls Club
Yes, It’s time for another great Work Party at the Encinitas Boys and Girls Club! Chuck is brushing up on his Bobcat skills, and Nick is engineering solutions for the Director’s latest vision of creative playtime for the Ceramics Studio. We will need all their skills (and yours!) to create a meandering, vineyard-style fence near the back of The Farm. Jessica* has dreams of this “food fence” supporting all manner of bushes and vines, so if you like to dig, pound stuff into the ground and twist things, sign up for Chuck and Nick’s Team. If you want to paint, re-organize workspaces, scatter mulch or spiff up the kitchen… or if your arm is in a sling, sign up for “Light Duty”. Jessica promises that there will be plenty for everyone to do!
Please RSVP to Marla with your preferred choice of duty assignment. Thanks! Marla Elliott <mk@marlaelliott.com> |

“I AM LUBO" is an inspirational story narrated through the eyes of a young boy. “LUBO" means love in Serbo-Croatian. Lou Pechi, born in Zagreb, Yugoslavia, shares the story of his life's remarkable journey through three continents, four countries and seven cities, to find a happy ending in San Diego.
His memoir, begins with his carefree childhood in Zagreb which ended abruptly in 1941 with the German invasion of Yugoslavia. In order to survive, he had to change his name, religion and identity, and it took many years to recover them. In his journey he encountered the best and worst of humanity, finally coming to the realization that we are all connected.
Lou Pechi, born in Zagreb, Croatia came to San Diego in 1955, where he enjoyed a successful career in engineering and sales marketing. A published columnist and writer of numerous articles, he is the author of three books. His memoir, I AM LUBO, the dramatic story his survival during WWII, was featured at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. |
